My Favorite DIY Sugar Scrubs

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love using sugar scrubs on my body. I get dry skin in the winter and using a sugar scrub in the shower really helps improve how my skin looks and feels. I love the feeling of just scrubbing all the dead skin off with a sugar scrub.

I like to make my sugar scrubs with some type of moisturizing oil that is good for the skin, such as vitamin E oil, olive oil, or coconut oil. I find my skin is smoother when I use coconut oil. It also helps if the sugar scrub smells amazing, so adding drops of your favorite scented oil helps too, I personally like lavender oil, peppermint oil, lemon oil, and orange oil.

First off, for many of these recipes, you will of course need sugar. Sugar is the base of the scrub and helps kill off the outer layer of dead skin. Sugar is also easy on the skin and goes on smooth, so it’s good to use on sensitive skin as well as normal. Depending on the sugar scrub you are trying to make, brown, cane or granulated white sugar works great for different recipes.

This also makes a great gift if you put them in mason jars and tie a ribbon on it/decorate!

Raspberry Lemon Sugar Scrub

(I love this combination!)

Ingredients:
(per 6-7 oz jar)
1/2 cup (4 oz.) granulated sugar
1/4 cup (2 oz.) coconut oil, melted (preferably organic)
1/8 to 1/4 tsp raspberry extract
1/8 to 1/4 tsp lemon extract
airtight container
Directions:
Mix ingredients together in a bowl. I suggest using a small amount of raspberry and lemon extract and add to it according to your preference!
When your scrub is all mixed up and you’re happy with the scent and the color, spoon it into a jar and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes to set the consistency. After you take it out, you don’t have to keep it refrigerated. If the coconut oil returns to its liquid state and you’d like to firm it up, simply place it back in the freezer for another 30 minutes. (Coconut oil remains solid up to 76˚F).

Rose Petal Sugar Scrub
(I love rose scents, so this is definitely one of my favorites)
16-18 oz. sugar scrub
Ingredients:
1 cup dried crushed rose petals
1 cups sugar
2/3 cup coconut oil
6-8 drops of essential oil of your choice (I suggest lavender, but vanilla works well with rose too)
airtight container
Directions:
This is a great way to use dried roses! Dry out roses for a couple days and crush them. Combine crushed petals with sugar and coconut oil, mix well, and then add essential oil of your choice. If you prefer a stronger smell, add more oil. This would make a cute Valentine’s Day gift as well!
I hope you enjoy these as much as I do, if you do make any of these recipes or know any I can try please let me know!
